I attended the Blogging Beauties Media Meet-Up Work Shop event on Saturday, February 28th in Charlotte, NC and the event was lots of fun and offered great advice for anyone seeking a career in blogging, vlogging, hosting or any other career field relating to the media.  The event was hosted by Sheen Magazine and Jelisa Raquel, Entertainment blogger and Creator of Broadcasting Beauty

The media meet up provided valuable training, advice, and one-on-one question answer sessions with some of the media women who have broken down barriers and fought their way into the industry with their talents, personalities, and brains.  Guest speakers included, Sheen Magazine's Managing Editor - April Whittington, On-air personality and Correspondent -The Elite Petite, Media Journalist and Creator of Oopsispilledthetea.com - Rashae Barnes, Celebrity Interviewer - Miss PhaShunta, and Entrepreneur and Creator of Ladies Who Brunch ATL and Bella Bar Tees - Dayy Bella.

The music was AMAZING!

The Media Meet Up Survival Kit 101

1.  Create a clear decision of who and where you want to be.
Mass Communications, Media Relations, and Journalism are fields that cover a mass amount of topics.  Know where you want to be and perfect that.

2.  Perfect your craft.
If you are serious about it, you will invest into it.  Take the necessary steps, funds, courses, and opportunities to help you form and shape your career in media.

3.  Make it happen.
Stop talking about your dreams and take action!  If you like reading, writing, communications, or Television and Film, find out how to start and begin shaping your own career.  Great mentors help shape great careers!

4.  Find your perfect internship.
All internships aren't beneficial to students.  Research the company, find out what you will be learning and make the best decision based on that.

5.  Give it your ALL.
No matter the situation, always give 110% as you never know who is watching.

6.  Don't become a professional intern.
Media/Art careers you intern a lot for free in this industry, but people will take advantage.  Don't get complacent or stuck.  Always think about your next move.

7.  Build a portfolio.
Keep all contacts made, and any footage, articles, or contributions made during your internship.  These things will help when creating yourself a media kit.

8.  Network!
Build valuable relationships, partnerships, and connections!  You're NETWORK is ultimately your NETworth in the media industry.  It's all about your connections and who knows your work.

9.  Believe in your brand.
If you don't, then who will?  Always remain positive and steadfast in knowing that your craft and brand is valuable to yourself and others.  Make yourself stand out, what can you offer others?  What makes your brand different?

10.  NEVER GIVE UP!
If you're working on something and haven't completely reached your goals, analyze your brand; maybe you need to re-brand or see what others think of your brand.  Why aren't you reaching your target audience?  Find out a new method.  Just because someone else doesn't see your vision doesn't mean it isn't clear.  It's all about risking everything for a dream nobody can see but you!
